Metrc Acquires BioTrack Government Contracts and New York Office of Cannabis Management Suspends Rollout of BioTrack
A Positive Shift for the Industry and Canix Customers
This morning, Metrc announced its acquisition of BioTrack’s government division.
Following this development, the New York Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) has sent out a notice informing licensees that the rollout of BioTrack is being suspended.
Metrc has acquired only the government side of BioTrack, meaning all of BioTrack’s state compliance contracts are now under Metrc’s ownership. These contracts will remain BioTrack contracts in the short term.
BioTrack will continue to operate as a standalone company, focusing solely on its ERP and point-of-sale (POS) solutions. While its role in government compliance will sunset over time, its private sector services will remain available to operators.
In conjunction with the acquisition, New York’s Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) has announced a suspension in the rollout of BioTrack as the state’s official track-and-trace system.
We fully support the OCM’s decision to reassess the rollout. We believe this is the right move for the long-term success of the New York cannabis market.
At Canix, we’ve long advocated for clarity, consistency, and operational ease in compliance workflows. This transition — both the acquisition and New York’s decision — reinforces our commitment to building tools that adapt to a constantly evolving regulatory environment.
If you have any questions about what this means for your business, especially if you operate in New York, reach out to your Canix representative. We’re here to ensure your operation remains compliant, agile, and informed.
