Unlocking Efficiency – Why Amaze Cannabis Dropped Distru and Saved Hours Each Week on Canix

Learn why Amaze Cannabis left Distru and started with Canix
Amaze Cannabis left Distru and switched to Canix and cut their data entry time in half

This case study explores how Amaze Cannabis transitioned from using Distru to Canix as their compliance software, highlighting the immense time savings, efficiency gains, and user satisfaction achieved. Lee Fesler, Director of Compliance at Amaze Cannabis, shares his candid experience with both platforms, emphasizing Canix's pivotal role in streamlining operations.

About Amaze Cannabis

  • Industry: Cannabis cultivation, manufacturing, and retail
  • Location: Missouri, USA
  • Role of Interviewee: Lee Fesler, Director of Compliance
  • Licenses Managed: Cultivation and manufacturing under one facility

Challenges Before Canix

Before implementing Canix, Amaze Cannabis used a mix of software tools, including Metrc for compliance and Distru for inventory and order management. This fragmented approach created several challenges:

Manual Workload:

- Inventory checks and tag management were cumbersome and time-consuming. Each tag required manual entry into Metric, averaging 30 seconds per tag, resulting in hours of work for large inventories.

- Managing discrepancies across multiple systems created inefficiencies and increased the potential for human error.

Limited Reporting Capabilities:

- Pulling historical data from Metric was impossible once inventory was transferred, leading to gaps in compliance tracking and auditing.

Ineffective Software Integration:

- Distru’s integration with LeafLink and Metric promised seamless operations but fell short, requiring manual data mappings and leading to inefficiencies.

It felt like their tactic was to rope you in for months during a long-winded integration process, only to realize the features didn’t deliver on their promises.

Inefficiency in Multi-License Operations:

- Operating under two licenses (cultivation and manufacturing) within one facility led to complex workflows that Distru couldn’t manage effectively.

Transition to Canix

Amaze Cannabis initially adopted Canix alongside Distru but quickly transitioned to exclusively using Canix due to its superior capabilities. Canix offered solutions that directly addressed their pain points:

Key Advantages of Canix

1. Time Savings

Canix's advanced features drastically reduced the manual workload:

  • Tag Management:
    • At Amaze Cannabis, compliance requires meticulous tracking of thousands of individual tags assigned to cannabis packages. When discrepancies or anomalies arose in their inventory, the compliance team needed to track the history and details of multiple tags quickly.
    • Previously, each tag had to be entered manually into Metric to pull associated data like package history, weight, or source.
      • This process averaged 30 seconds per tag, which compounded to hours of manual work for large inventories involving hundreds of tags.
    • The ability to search for multiple tags in the tag bar saved hours and hours of work every week.”
    • Instead of manually inputting tags one by one, Fesler could now drop a CSV file into Canix and pull the needed data within seconds.
    • This alone makes Canix worth it—it’s the most massive time saver ever.
  • Historical Package Tag Access For Tags No Longer in the Facility
    • Canix stores detailed histories for tags, even after they leave the inventory. This was previously an issue for Compliance Audits and External Issue Resolution.
      • For example, if a dispensary reports a problem with a received batch, the compliance team can review all related tags to determine whether the issue originated during production, packaging, or transit.
      • Previously, the team would need to wait for the dispensary to ship the package back, guess on what the issue had been, attempt to rectify it, and then ship the package back to the dispensary.
        • One of the most annoying things about Metric is you can’t look at the history of any tag once it’s been transferred. Canix solves that problem completely.

"“Canix is the most integrated and efficient platform we’ve used. I barely have a reason to touch Metric anymore, and that’s a testament to how well Canix works.

2. Enhanced Efficiency

Canix streamlined day-to-day operations with intuitive features:

  • Custom Views and Reports:
    • The ability to save custom views and access them quickly saved time navigating menus and reports.
    • Something as simple as favoriting custom views is such a small feature, but it adds a ton of efficiency.
  • Data Integration and Export:
    • Canix allowed for real-time data exports and integrations, eliminating manual calculations.
    • I can pull everything I need, filter it out, and export it instantly. Before, this process took hours.

3. Continuous Product Improvements

  • Regular updates and new features demonstrated Canix’s commitment to customer feedback:
    • I love being able to drop suggestions and vote on them. Everything that’s popular has been handled, and it’s great to see.

Quantifiable Impact

  • Tag Management Efficiency: Saved hours weekly by batch-uploading tags instead of manual entries.
  • Historical Data Access: Enabled faster audits and error tracing, reducing downtime during compliance checks.
  • Streamlined Multi-License Operations: Minimized redundant steps and manual corrections, saving additional hours weekly.

Conclusion

Amaze Cannabis’s experience with Canix showcases how the right compliance software can dramatically improve operational efficiency. By replacing Distru and reducing reliance on Metric, Canix became a cornerstone of their compliance strategy.

Canix is the most integrated and efficient platform we’ve used. I barely have a reason to touch Metric anymore, and that’s a testament to how well Canix works.” – Lee Fesler, Director of Compliance, Amaze Cannabis
